Happy Halloween (almost)
I finally got my Halloween card up on my etsy shop! I’m selling it for only $4 since it’s almost Halloween!
Saturday: New Work by Dylan Reece @ Mass
“On view from October 17th to November 7th, Funky Junction Oracles employs a variety of media — prints, photography, painting, animated GIFs, and sculpture — to illustrate Reece’s attempt to fix meaning in a world characterized by ever increasing flows of information and rapid change in the complexity of social systems. Drawing from a range of sources that include the pop-metaphysics of the ’70s, the classical art of Greece and Rome, the internet, vintage nature books, rave culture, and Modernism in art, the imagery for much of the work is unified by an underlying sense of idealism and progress gone awry.”
Here are some of Dylan’s previous works:

New Studio!
Here is a little taste of my new studio. More pictures to follow.
And here is a project I’ve been working on:

Dame Darcy’s Gasoline and Palm Readings
I have been reading Gasoline by Dame Darcy, so I decided to get some more information about her. She apparently does palm readings for $20 via email. Her graphic novel, Gasoline, is set in post-apocalyptic America, in a place where magic, witchery and telekinesis rule, and she even throws in some zombie sailors.

Pure Positivity: Michelle Devereux
Michelle Devereux’s Turn Your Life Right Side Up is pretty amazing. This girl is my new favorite artist, and she lives right here in Austin. To celebrate her new book/dvd there was an awesome performance and screening this weekend. If you missed it don’t worry, you can buy the book from Monofonus Press.
Here’s what they have to say about the book:
“Do you need Help? For your Self? You’re in luck! Art Healer Michelle Devereux has just what the doctor would order… if you had health insurance and could go to one.
Turn This Book Right Side Up: An Interactive Guide to Self-Improvement gives new meaning to “this book will save your life.” She might even have called it that if it weren’t already taken.Part art book, part workbook, part comedy book, all fu-un! Turn This Book Right Side Up: An Interactive Guide to Self-Improvement has everything you need to turn over a new leaf. Or masturbate in front of a mirror.
A new take on the IF Series, which usually brings together writing, visual art, and music, IF08 replaces the music with some video art – in this instance, a Self Help Read Along DVD, complete with a wizard guide and a workout segment.
What else could you possibly need to make your Life Better? How about a party!?! Featuring the manifestations and positive vibes of fellow gurus, the artists Elana Farley, David Israel, Amanda Joy,Max Juren, Drew Liverman, Duncan Malashock (who made the fabulous poster below), Carlos Rosales-Silva, Christina Simon, and more!”
Check out more of Michelle’s work in this video:
Ups and Downs
This week has included a lot of ups and downs.
Downs:
My dad was not able to come in town to visit and go to the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
I was declined from Blue Genie Art Bazaar.
Ups:
I was accepted to the Cherrywood Art Fair.
We have made some great progress on getting our new place all set up.
It’s been quite a whirlwind week for other reasons too, hopefully I will get to share more of those in the upcoming weeks. One thing that has kept me sane and happy this week has been the new soundtrack to Where the Wild Things Are. I can’t wait to see the movie, but the soundtrack is my new favorite thing. You can stream it here..
October Goal Meet-Up
September was officially moving month, so last month most of my goals were moving-related.
September Goals
1. Work more with gouache; more holiday card designs and more small paintings. This is a continuing goal.
2. Go through all my stuff to see what I can get rid of. It had to be done.
3. Pack EVERYTHING. This also had to be done.
4. Move everything in to the new place, and get everything put away…by the end of the month (Move in is Sept. 19th by the way). I haven’t got everything put away yet, especially in the studio, but I’ve done a LOT so far. Pictures are on their way.
October Goals
1. Finish setting up the studio and get pictures posted next 2 weeks.
2. Serious art time. Time to get down to business!
3. Finish a supply of all greeting cards, at least 25 of each card.
4. Get photos of new stuff done and uploaded.
