Monday’s Finds: ART!
Hello Lovely Readers,
It is a rainy, floody, tornado-y day here in Austin, TX. I went to the post office this morning to send my first-ever INTERNATIONAL greeting card order to the U.K. on my lunch break. My shoes are soaked, but I’m in good spirits. I finished my fiveXsevens for Arthouse over the weekend and shipped them out on that same post office trip.
I have found some art on the internet (etsy.com) to share with you today. The first is in honor of Bea Arthur’s death this past Saturday. RIP.
Finally working on art!
It’s finally Friday, and I am excited about having a weekend to work in the studio! I thought I was going to busy all day Saturday at the Austin Handmade market, but since it was postponed (to next weekend) that means I have the entire weekend to get creative.
I have been working for the past few months on greeting cards, with little time for making art. I am participating in the fiveXseven show coming up in May at Arthouse, so I have been playing around with some ideas for those. Last night I was able to complete the first three and start on the last one. I had lightning bolts of ideas coming out of me.
I went to college (Virginia Tech) for psychology, so I do not have a formal art background. I only took 2 art classes in college, so I have barely any critique experience. I asked my boyfriend, Mark, for some feedback on what I was working on. It is hard not to take critiques personally. Isn’t everything I make just perfect as it is? Once I got over my ego, Mark’s critique really pushed me to go a better direction. I will post the finished product after that show opens on May 15th.
Crazy Soaps found on Etsy.com
Window-shopping on etsy has left me feeling like I NEED something that I never really new existed before: crazy shaped handmade soaps. Luckily my old roommate keeps me stocked with wonderful smelling handmade soaps, so I haven’t purchased any yet. Here are the best of the bunch:

Austin Handmade Market next Weekend
If you aren’t going to Eeyore’s Birthday party this Saturday, you should come The Austin Handmade market has been postponed to next weekend. On Saturday May 2nd, come to Austin Handmade on South 1st, where they will be having an outdoor market. I will have a table set up with all the Glademade cards and art. I hope to see you out there!
Happy Monday!
I have been under the weather for the past week, so I haven’t had time to post, and I apologize! I have been busy despite my poor health. I have been making more Mother’s day cards, going to the Austin farmer’s market, meeting with other small businesses (biznazty), watching a lot of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, pulling weeds from the garden, and reading the first two Twilight books.
I found this lovely photo online today:
My Glademade Mother’s day card was featured on this blog on Friday, and in this etsy treasury yesterday! Hooray!
Glademade cards available at Domy Books
Domy Books (one in Austin, one in Houston) is the most awesome art/comic bookstore/gallery. I constantly feel inspired when looking through the book selection at Domy. I am now honored to say that glademade greeting cards are for sale at Domy in Austin!
